ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. A landslide hit the Swiss village of Bondo, near the Italian border, on Wednesday (August 23). Local media reported that 200 people were evacuated from the area, as four million cubic meters of rocks and mud descended on the village, surrounding homes and damaging infrastructure. Villagers from nearby hamlets were also evacuated, and trapped tourists and hikers were rescued with a helicopter, local media reported. There were no reports of casualties or injuries, local media said, but French media reported eight people missing. The area had been monitored for unusual movement since June.
