TABLE-China's new paraxylene plants on stream through 2023

SINGAPORE, Aug 20 (Reuters) - China is starting up a total
of 10 million tonnes of new plants making paraxylene, a chemical
used to make synthetic textile fibre and bottles, from March
2019 to March 2020.
The new PX capacity could force leading exporters in South
Korea and Japan, as well as in the Middle East to cut production
as early as the second quarter of next year.
The world's top consumer of paraxylene, China imports 60% of
its need for the chemical to feed its polyester demand that has
more than doubled since 2010. Over half of China's PX imports
come from South Korea and Japan.
At 10 million tonnes, that's equal to South Korea's total PX
industry and tripling that of Japan.
Between 2020-2023, China could add another 14 million tonnes
of annual capacity of the chemical, with most of the plants
integrated with large crude oil refineries.
Reuters compiled the below list of new plants, based on
industry sources, company reports and Chinese commodities
consultancy JLC.
