UPDATE 2-Cricket-Play finally underway in Sydney test

(Updates with resumption of play)

SYDNEY, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Play on the fourth day of the final test between Australia and India finally got underway after a rain delay of almost four hours on Sunday.

A thunderstorm forced play to be abandoned 90 minutes early on Saturday and persistent light rain washed out the entire first session at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday morning.

Australia resumed on 236 for six, 386 runs behind India’s first innings 622-7 declared, with Peter Handscomb (28) and Pat Cummins (25) at the crease.

India need only a draw to win the four-match series, their first such triumph in Australia. (Reporting by Nick Mulvenney, editing by Peter Rutherford)
