Regulator says no need to halt EDF reactors due to welds issue - Les Echos

PARIS, Oct 24 (Reuters) - French utility EDF can continue operating nuclear reactors concerned with defective welds at its steam generators, the head of France’s ASN regulator told Les Echos newspaper.

“In view of the analysis we have carried out since the beginning of September, we believe that there is no need to halt the reactors equipped with the steam generators concerned by the defective welds,” Bernard Doroszczuk said in an interview published on Thursday.

He added the regulator was still to make a ruling on the generators that would be installed at EDF’s Flamanville 3 EPR nuclear reactor under construction in the north of France. (Reporting by Bate Felix; Editing by Sudip Kar-Gupta)
