Egypt targets 5 pct GDP growth by end-2017/18 - planning minister

CAIRO, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Egypt expects its gross domestic product to grow by 5 percent by the end of the fiscal year 2017/18 that began in July compared with 4 percent in the previous year, the planning minister said on Monday.

Egypt’s exports are expected to increase to $22.5 billion by the end of 2017/18 compared with the $20.5 billion it reached by the end of the previous year, Planning Minister Hala al-Saeed said in a statement.

The country targets investment worth 646 billion Egyptian pounds ($36.5 billion) in 2017/18 compared with 530 billion pounds in the previous year, she said. ($1 = 17.7150 Egyptian pounds) (Reporting by Arwa Gaballa and Amina Ismail; Editing by Toby Chopra)
