European spot power prices mixed as fall in solar power output lifts German prices

PARIS, Aug 30 (Reuters) - European spot electricity prices for day-ahead delivery diverged on Wednesday as a projected decline in power supply from solar sources lifted the German contract, while falling demand weighed on the French contract.

The baseload German prompt power contract for Thursday delivery gained 4.40 percent to 38 euros ($45.42) a megawatt-hour (MWh).

The equivalent French contract fell 4.27 percent to 39.25 euros/MWh.

German solar power production is expected to fall by 3.5 gigawatts (GW) to 3.4 GW day-on-day on Thursday.

In France, electricity consumption is forecast to fall by 870 megawatts to 48 GW as average temperature eases sharply by 4.5 degrees Celsius following a three-day heat wave.
