Germany says not making itself more dependent on Russia with new pipeline

BERLIN, April 26 (Reuters) - Germany is not making itself more dependent on Russia by agreeing to the new Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline running under the Baltic Sea, a senior German government official said on Thursday.

“Our analysis is ... that does not make us more dependent on Russia,” he said before Chancellor Angela Merkel meets U.S. President Donald Trump in Washingont on Friday.

“Russia is a very reliable supplier.” (Writing by Paul Carrel, editing by Thomas Escritt)
