Ghana sells 1.38 bln cedis in 5-yr local bond at 18.25 pct yield

ACCRA, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Ghana sold 1.38 billion cedis ($313.58 mln) worth of a five-year domestic bond on Friday at a yield of 18.25 percent, lead arranger Barclays Bank Ghana said.

The new government of President Nana Akufo-Addo, who took power in January, is trying to rebalance the West African country’s finances as it faces large debts from years of overspending and lower commodity prices.

Bids tendered for the roll-over paper amounted to 1.42 billion cedis, Barclays said. ($1 = 4.4210 Ghana cedis) (Reporting by Kwasi Kpodo; Editing by Alison Williams)
