Italy denies it has called for ESM help over coronavirus crisis

ROME, March 17 (Reuters) - Italy on Tuesday denied it had called for the euro zone’s bailout fund, the European Stability Mechanism, to be activated to help its economy deal with the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

The Economy Ministry said reports circulating on social media that Italy had asked for ESM help, following an article in German newspaper Handelsblatt, were “groundless”.
