Merkel urges caution despite fewer coronavirus cases

BERLIN, June 17 (Reuters) - Chancellor Angela Merkel urged Germans on Wednesday to remain cautious and stick to social distancing rules, but also added that the number of new coronavirus infections had stabilized at a low level.

After speaking with the premiers of Germany’s 16 states, Merkel also said that all sides agreed to extend a ban on large events until at least the end of October to avoid another wave of new infections. (Reporting by Michael Nienaber, editing by Emma Thomasson)
