Canada says it will suspend its extradition treaty with Hong Kong

OTTAWA, July 3 (Reuters) - Canada is suspending its extradition treaty with Hong Kong in the wake of China’s move to impose national security legislation on the former British colony, a top official said on Friday.

In a statement, Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne also said Ottawa would not permit the export of sensitive military items to Hong Kong, which is home to around 300,000 Canadians. (Reporting by David Ljunggren in Ottawa Editing by Matthew Lewis)
