Iran should try officials if abuse proved - Rezaie

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran’s conservative defeated presidential candidate said on Wednesday if abuse claims of detainees arrested after the June presidential election were proved, officials in charge should be put on trial.

“If your reports about the mistreatment and abuses of detainees and protesters are proved, all officials in charge should at least be sacked and tried in court ... and national mourning should be declared,” Mohsen Rezaie told a group of Iran’s rights activists, the semi-official ILNA news agency reported.
