India's April-Feb non-basmati rice exports surge 30 pct y/y - govt body

MUMBAI, April 12 (Reuters) - India’s non-basmati rice exports during April-February jumped 30 percent from a year earlier to 7.7 million tonnes as Bangladesh, Benin and Sri Lanka increased their purchases, a government body said in a statement on Thursday.

The country’s buffalo meat exports during the period rose 3.5 percent from a year ago to 1.23 million tonnes on upbeat demand from Vietnam, Malaysia and Egypt, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority said.

India is the world’s biggest exporter of buffalo meat and rice. (Reporting by Rajendra Jadhav, Editing by Sherry Jacob-Phillips)
