Indian shares flat as weak global cues offset strong earnings reports

BENGALURU, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Indian shares were flat on Wednesday as weak global cues countered strong earnings reports from Bharti Airtel and Tata Motors.

By 0350 GMT, the NSE Nifty 50 index and the S&P BSE Sensex were little changed at 11,888.1 and 40,509.47, respectively.

Global markets slipped as the United States, Russia, France and other countries have registered record numbers of infections in recent days, and European governments have introduced new curbs to try to rein in the fast-growing outbreaks.

Airtel jumped 5.7% after the telecom operator reported a smaller quarterly loss on Tuesday.

Tata Motors, India’s biggest carmaker by revenue, gained as much as 2.3% after it reported a smaller-than-expected loss.

Hero Motocorp, which is scheduled to report earnings later on Wednesday, was up 2.85% following its deal with Harley-Davidson Inc. (Reporting by Derek Francis in Bengaluru; Editing by Aditya Soni)
