India's Oct 1-Nov 15 sugar output at 1.2 mln T- Trade body

NEW DELHI, Nov 19 (Reuters) - Indian sugar mills produced 1.2 million tonnes of the sweetener between Oct. 1 and Nov. 15, down from 1.4 million tonnes in the same period last year, the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), a producers’ body, said in a statement on Monday.

Last month, the ISMA scaled down its output estimates for the 2018/19 season that began on Oct. 1 to 32 million tonnes, from its previous forecast of 35-35.5 million tonnes.

Reuters earlier reported that an infestation of white grubs in Maharashtra, India’s second-biggest sugar producing state, and neighbouring Karnataka state, the third-largest producer, could mean sugar output for the 2018/19 crop year will be 9 percent lower than earlier estimates.
