TABLE-India's mobile subscriber base rises in October; Jio adds 9.1 mln

    Dec 30 (Reuters) - India's mobile phone customer base rose
by 9.66 million subscribers to 1.18 billion in October,
according to data released by the country's telecoms regulator
on Monday.
    The table below shows mobile phone subscriptions in India -
the world's second-biggest wireless market by number of users.

 NOTE:
    * Active mobile subscribers in October were 981.19 million.
    * Mobile connections per 100 people, or the tele-density of
wireless subscribers, were 89.55. Mobile tele-density in urban
India was 156.83, compared with 57.91 in rural regions.
    * As many as 4.08 million mobile subscribers opted to change
their service providers through mobile number portability. India
is divided into 22 telecommunications service zones.
    * Total broadband connections were 644.08 million. There
were 625 million broadband users through mobile phones and
dongles, while 19.08 million were using broadband through
wirelines. Internet connections with a minimum download speed of
512 Kbps are considered as broadband in India.
    * The number of fixed-phone line subscribers slipped to
21.45 million in October from 21.49 million in September.
    * Including fixed-phone lines, India had 1.20 billion phone
users as of Oct. 31, or a total tele-density of 91.17%.
