TABLE-India's mobile subscriber base rises in Sept; Airtel, Vodafone lose 5 mln

    Nov 19 (Reuters) - India's mobile phone customer base edged
up by 0.23% or 2.8 million subscribers to 1.17 billion in
September, data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of
India showed on Tuesday.
    The table below shows mobile phone subscriptions in India,
the world's second-biggest wireless market by number of users.

 NOTE:
    * Active mobile subscribers in September were 960.9 million
    * The tele-density of wireless subscribers, or mobile
connections per 100 people, was 88.90 as of Sept. 30. Mobile
tele-density in urban India was 156.18, compared with 57.28 in
rural regions.
    * In September, 5.39 million mobile subscribers opted to
change their service providers through mobile number
portability. India is divided into 22 telecommunications service
zones.
    * Total broadband connections were 625.4 million, as of
end-September. There were 606.4 million broadband users through
mobile phones and dongles, while 19 million customers were using
broadband through wirelines. Internet connections with a minimum
download speed of 512 Kbps are considered as broadband in India.
    * The number of fixed-phone line subscribers rose to 21.49
million by end-September from 20.82 million at the end of
August.
    * Including fixed-phone lines, India had 1.2 billion phone
users as of Sept. 30, or a total tele-density of 90.52%.
