POLITICS

Italy said on Thursday it would resist pressure from Brussels to revise its big-spending budget.

Economy Minister Giovanni Tria said there was no need for “extraordinary” measures to defend the savings of Italians and said bank deposits had risen in both September and October.

ECONOMY (*) Italy will show the highest willingness to negotiate with the European institutions but it is not prepared to change the main pillars of its 2019 budget, Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio told daily La Repubblica on Friday.

ISTAT releases October non-EU foreign trade data (0900 GMT).

Bank of Italy releases twice-yearly Financial Stability Report.

Italy said on Thursday it would resist pressure from Brussels to revise its big-spending budget, effectively daring EU authorities to punish it with fines ahead of May’s European parliamentary elections.

Italy’s Economy Minister Giovanni Tria said on Thursday that “new elements” would be put forward regarding the government’s 2019 budget once talks start with the European Commission over the contested package.

POLITICS (*) Italy’s EU Affairs Minister Paolo Savona is considering resigning over the government’s decision to challenge European Union budget rules, daily Corriere Della Sera said.

DEBT

Treasury announces sale of 6-month BOT bills, with relative amounts to be auctioned on Nov. 28.

Italy’s Treasury said on Thursday it would offer up to 3.5 billion euros ($4 billion) over two bonds at an auction on Nov. 27.

COMPANIES (*) ATLANTIA

The group’s motorway unit Autostrade per l’Italia has sent a letter to Genoa special commissioner to say it has the right to rebuild the bridge that collapsed in Genoa killing 43 people, La Stampa reported.

The group is in pole position to win a contract to build an offshore wind farm in Scotland with France’s EDF, MF reported. (*) LEONARDO

The group confirms all the targets in its 2018-2022 business plan, CEO Alessandro Profumo was quoted as saying by Il Sole 24 Ore.

The bank is in talks to buy a stake of up to 10 percent in Camfin, a company which holds 11.4 percent of tyre maker Pirelli, Il Sole 24 Ore reported. (*) MEDIOBANCA, UNICREDIT

A decision on a new shareholders’ pact for the investment bank is expected on Dec. 5, the chairman of Banca Mediolanum was quoted as saying by Il Sole 24 Ore.

UniCredit will likely support the idea of a so-called “light pact” for Mediobanca, MF daily said.

TELECOM ITALIA

Rome was pressing ahead on Thursday with measures to help create a single broadband infrastructure company that could combine the networks of Telecom Italia (TIM) and smaller rival Open Fiber, despite concerns over jobs.
