ISTAT releases July industrial output (0800 GMT)

France, Germany, Italy and Spain want digital multinationals like Amazon and Google to be taxed in Europe based on their revenues, rather than only profits as now, their finance ministers said on Saturday in a joint letter.

COMPANIES

FINCANTIERI

Italian Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan meets French counterpart Bruno Le Maire in Rome on Monday in an attempt to hammer out a compromise over Fincantieri’s blocked bid for France’s STX shipyard.

(*) According to Monday’s Il Messaggero the aim is to seal at least a “declaration of intent” at the Sept. 27 summit, with a view to reaching an agreement by the end of the year.

The paper said France could propose cross-shareholdings between Fincantieri and Naval Group as part of a wider deal extended to military cooperations. Italy however wants the majority of the new group, and does not consider the right to appoint the group’s chairman and director general enough to drop its objections.

Fincantieri said on Monday it had won a 310 million euro contract to build an ultra-luxury cruise ship due to join Silversea Cruises’ fleet in 2020.

TELECOM ITALIA, VIVENDI

An Italian government’s working group will meet on Sept. 25 to discuss using the executive’s “golden powers” to limit the influence of France’ Vivendi over Telecom Italia, Il Sole 24 Ore said on Sunday.

The newspaper also said the phone company and the government were in “more constructive talks” over investments to build an ultra-fast broadband network and the government had called a meeting with TIM’s representatives on Sept. 20.

Italian market watchdog Consob may rule over Vivendi’s role at Telecom Italia in the next few days, Il Sole 24 Ore said on Saturday. (*) Corriere della Sera’s L‘Economia reiterated on Monday that Amos Genish looked likely to become TIM’s new CEO, saying however that Italian candidates Giuseppe Recchi and Franco Bernabe were not completely out of the picture yet. The paper said that on Aug.17 TIM and Canal+ had signed a term sheet to create their planned content joint venture.

ASSICURAZIONI GENERALI

The Italian insurer has entered exclusive talks with Asr Verzekeringen over the sale of its Dutch business and could sign by end-September a deal which would be worth around 300 million euros, Milano Finanza said on Saturday.

ATLANTIA

The Italian infrastructure group has given the European Commission notice of its takeover bid on Spain’s Abertis , Il Sole 24 Ore said on Saturday, adding the EU Antitrust will give its verdict on the issue by Oct. 13.

FIAT CHRYSLER

If the car maker can’t find a buyer for Magneti Marelli by the end of 2018, it may spin off the components unit whose value is estimated at 4-5 billion euros, Corriere della Sera reported on Sunday in an unsourced report.

FCA may spin off its components business already by the end of the year, la Repubblica Affari&Finanza reported on Monday, adding that a spin-off of the Magneti Marelli unit would precede that of the Comau unit. A Marelli stake would first be put on the market to test valuations ahead of a stock market listing with Exor due to keep a 29 percent stake, it said.

BANCA CARIGE

After several years in the red, the bank expects to turn in a small profit already next year under a new business plan the CEO has started to discuss with the board ahead of a final approval this week, several newspapers reported on Saturday.

Investment fund Amber has increased its stake in the publisher to nearly 10 percent, La Stampa reported on Sunday, adding several investors in the company have asked for a further increase in the price of the bid launched by Chiara Finanziaria.
