Kazakh president nominates Nazarbayeva for Senate speaker

ALMATY, Sept 2 (Reuters) - Kazakh president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Monday nominated Dariga Nazarbayeva, a daughter of his predecessor Nursultan Nazarbayev, for the position of Senate speaker, Russia’s TASS news agency quoted Tokayev’s chief of staff as saying.

Nazarbayeva has served as head of the upper chamber since March, but her mandate was renewed last month, making it necessary for the Senate to re-elect her. (Reporting by Olzhas Auyezov; Editing by Toby Chopra)
