COLOMBO, Dec 21 (Reuters) - Sri Lanka’s main stock index .CSE hit a record high on Monday, as investors stepped up their buying ahead of the year end.
“Market is back on its feet and running,” said Prasanna Chandrasekara associate director at Asia Securities stockbrokers in Colombo. “People are getting in to positions before the elections and ahead of new year.”
The All-Share Price Index was up 0.9 percent at 3,216.44 after touching the all time peak of 3,216.44 earlier.
Analysts said the foreign buying in the past few days has improved investor confidence. The foreign purchase for the week was 5.87 billion rupees, outpacing the foreign sales worth 3.58 billion rupees which helped the market to record a net foreign inflow of 1.15 billion rupees so far for this year.
