OAS passes resolution to begin process to suspend Venezuela

CARACAS, June 5 (Reuters) - The Organization of American States (OAS) on Tuesday passed a resolution to begin the process of suspending Venezuela from the 34-member organization “in defense of representative democracy.”

During a meeting of the OAS’ general assembly in Washington, 19 members voted in favor of the suspension, four voted against and 11 abstained, according to footage on the OAS web page. (Reporting by Vivian Sequera and Deisy Buitrago Writing by Angus Berwick; Editing by Sandra Maler)
