Romania - Factors to watch on May 15

BUCHAREST, May 15 (Reuters) - Here are news stories, press reports and events to watch which may affect Romanian financial markets on Monday.


Romania’s central bank Governor Mugur Isarescu holds news conference to present the quarterly inflation report at 0800 GMT. The bank currently forecasts inflation at 1.7 percent and 3.4 percent this year and next, respectively.

The central bank will also release minutes of its May 5 rate-setting meeting at 1200 GMT, and will also release March current account data.


Romanian debt managers tender 300 million lei ($72.19 million) worth of July 2027 treasury bonds.


Romanian state-owned nuclear power grid operator Transelectrica and gas pipeline operator Transgaz to announce first-quarter results.


Officials across the globe scrambled over the weekend to catch the culprits behind a massive ransomware worm that disrupted operations at car factories, hospitals, shops and schools, while Microsoft on Sunday pinned blame on the U.S. government for not disclosing more software vulnerabilities.

Romanian carmaker Dacia, owned by France’s Renault RENA.PA, said on Saturday some of its production had been hit by what appeared to be the global ransomware cyber attack that has infected computers in nearly 100 countries.


Romanian state-owned gas producer Romgaz ROSNG.BX will start production in 2019 at a newly discovered gas field, its biggest find in three decades, the government said on Friday.


Romanian state-owned nuclear power producer Nuclearelectrica recorded a net first-quarter net profit of 84.05 million lei ($20.10 million), up 25.7 percent from the same quarter of last year due to higher sales.


Romanian state-owned power utility Electrica recorded a first-quarter net loss of 51.2 million lei ($12.31 million), compared with a profit of 141.8 million lei in the same quarter of last year.


Romania’s Intelligence Service (SRI) said on Friday it had countered a cyber attack attempt against a Romanian government institution it did not identify. The attack, unrelated to the global ransomware attack, was most likely by APT 28, a Russian hacking group also known as “Fancy Bear”, it said.


Central Europe’s main stock indices tested multi-year highs on Friday as first-quarter corporate reports showed a rise in profits and an optimistic picture about the region’s economies.


The Romanian union of air traffic controllers triggered a two-hour warning strike at 0800 GMT on Friday over unmet labour demands.
