Russian central bank announces help to financial sector over coronavirus

MOSCOW, March 20 (Reuters) - The Russian central bank on Friday announced measures designed to support business, consumers and the financial sector in the face of the coronavirus outbreak.

The measures included special refinancing rates, favourable conditions for specific types of loans, and a decision to postpone the introduction of tighter rules for banks.

The bank unveiled the measures after it opted to hold its key interest rate at 6.00%, halting its monetary easing cycle to counter a fall in the rouble and adjust to heightened economic risks linked to low oil prices and coronavirus. (Reporting by Katya Golubkova Editing by Andrew Osborn)
