South Africa's retail sales down 1.4 percent year/year in December

JOHANNESBURG, Feb 13 (Reuters) - South African retail sales fell 1.4 percent year-on-year in December after increasing at a revised year-on-year rate of 2.9 percent in November, the statistics office said on Wednesday.

On a month-on-month basis, sales fell 4.8 percent in December. Sales were up 1 percent in the three months to the end of December compared with the same period last year, Statistics South Africa said. (Reporting by Mfuneko Toyana Editing by Tiisetso Motsoeneng)
