LONDON (Reuters) - West Ham United boss David Moyes believes whoever steps in to replace Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will have a tough job on his hands.

Wenger will leave Arsenal at the end of the season after nearly 22 years in charge and Moyes, who took over at Manchester United after Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, is aware of how tough it can be to follow long-standing and successful managers.

Moyes, whose West Ham team travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal on Sunday, lasted 10 months at Old Trafford before he was sacked.

“It’s never easy when you follow great managers at great clubs. It’ll be tough for whoever takes the (Arsenal) job,” the Scot told a news conference on Friday.

“He’s been a great competitor, a terrific manager. One of the best managers that the Premier League has seen.

“Real football people appreciate what he’s done. He’s dedicated to his job, he’s been dedicated to his sport and he’s a real proper football man.”

West Ham are six points above the relegation zone, and Moyes, who was put in charge until the end of the season, said whether he stayed at the club beyond that would only be decided once the campaign ended.

“At the end of the season, we have to make sure we’re a Premier League team and we won’t have any discussions before then. We’ll start talking about it at the end of the season,” he added.

“I’m enjoying it here, there’s a lot of confidence around the camp and let’s make sure we’re a Premier League side first.”
