Esports-Man City and Epsilon partner to enter Gfinity Elite Series

Oct 11 (Reuters) - Premier League champions Manchester City on Thursday announced a partnership with Epsilon eSports to compete in the FIFA 19 category of Gfinity Elite Series.

City, in a bid to expand its presence in esports has increased investments in the sector, including a partnership with gaming headset and audio accessory brand Turtle Beach and the launch of a FIFA Online team in Beijing.

“Manchester City is dedicated to growing our presence within esports. Being part of the Elite Series gives our fans a new platform to watch our players compete and we’re looking forward to seeing how they progress,” said Nuria Tarre, chief marketing officer of the club’s parent company, City Football Group.

As a part of the collaboration, City and Epsilon players will form half FIFA 19 roster, while the remaining players will be chosen through the Elite draft.

The Gfinity Elite Series is a tournament based in the United Kingdom that gives amateur players a chance to be drafted by some of the top esports teams.

Ten teams will compete in the eight-week tournament for a spot in the grand final in December. The fourth season of the tournament is set to kick off on Oct. 26. (Reporting by Nivedita Balu in Bengaluru, editing by Pritha Sarkar)
