Spanish retail sales rise 1.1 pct in July

MADRID, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Spanish retail sales rose 1.1 percent in July from a year earlier on a calendar-adjusted basis, after increasing by a revised 2.3 percent in June, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said on Thursday.

Spain’s economic growth sped up in the second quarter of the year, propelled largely by a consumer spending boom.

The June retail sales figure was revised down from an original reading of a 2.5 percent annual increase. (Reporting by Tomas Cobos, Writing by Sarah White, Editing by Jesus Aguado)
