Jan 30 (Reuters) - Sports news in brief from around the world:

Soccer - West Ham United have given midfielder Julien Faubert permission to talk to Real Madrid about a loan move, the English Premier League club said on their website (www.whufc.com).

The 25-year-old Frenchman, who has played 32 times for West Ham since arriving in July 2007 from Girondins Bordeaux, could make a permanent switch to the Spanish capital at the end of the season.

Soccer - Villarreal forward Jozy Altidore is joining Spanish second division leaders Xerez on loan until the end of the season, the Primera Liga club said on their website (www.villarrealcf.es).

“This is a good opportunity for me because I will be able to get more time on the pitch which will help me adapt to this country and continue to develop my career,” said the 19-year-old American.
