IMF calls on Ukraine to follow criteria for central bank governance

KYIV, Oct 8 (Reuters) - The International Monetary Fund has called Ukraine to adhere to criteria for central bank governance that were developed in consultation with fund staff, the IMF representative in Ukraine Goesta Ljungman said on Thursday.

“The framework has served the NBU (National Bank of Ukraine) - and the Ukrainian economy - well by strengthening the confidence in the NBU as an independent and professional central bank,” he said in a statement issued regarding a decision of the central bank’s supervisory council.

Earlier this week, the council declared no-confidence to two deputies of the central bank governor because of their comments in Ukrainian media. (Reporting by Natalia Zinets; Editing by Toby Chopra)
