Brazil's central government budget deficit widens in July

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazil’s central government budget deficit widened unexpectedly in July, Treasury data showed on Tuesday, as the government works to approve easier fiscal targets in Congress and avoid crippling spending cuts.

The central government, which includes federal ministries, social security and the central bank, posted a primary budget deficit of 20.15 billion reais ($6.4 billion) last month, up from 19.79 billion reais in June. Analysts had forecast a July deficit of 18.3 billion reais in a Reuters Poll.
