U.S. sets execution of fourth federal inmate for Aug. 26

WASHINGTON, July 29 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department said on Wednesday it had scheduled for Aug. 26 the execution of convicted murderer Lezmond Mitchell, who would be the fourth federal inmate put to death this summer after a 17-year hiatus.

Mitchell’s execution for the 2001 murders of a 63-year-old woman and her 9-year-old granddaughter, originally scheduled for December 2019, was delayed by court challenges.
