U.S. says Vietnam to resume importing American distillers dried grain

WASHINGTON, Sept 6 (Reuters) - Vietnam will resume imports of American distillers dried grains (DDGS) after having suspended them in December for reported detection of quarantine pests, the U.S. Trade Representative and Agriculture Department said on Wednesday.

DDGS are a co-product of ethanol production and are used as an ingredient to provide protein and energy in animal feed.

“Prior to the suspension, Vietnam was the third-largest market for U.S. DDGS, with exports valued at more than $230 million in 2016. The resolution of this issue also opens the way for corn and wheat shipments, which were restricted due to previous treatment requirements,” the agencies said in a statement.
