Trump administration eyeing fresh round of Venezuela sanctions -Wall Street Journal

WASHINGTON, Aug 23 (Reuters) - The Trump administration will soon unveil a fresh round of sanctions against Venezuela targeting government officials and possibly the financial sector, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing an unnamed senior administration official.

Administration officials plan to submit a broad package of proposed sanctions for President Donald Trump to consider, including a plan that would prohibit trading of some Venezuelan bonds, the Journal reported.

It said one option would ban trading of new debt issued by Venezuela or its state-owned entities, with an exemption for debt issued under the authority of the National Assembly that President Nicolas Maduro has stripped of power. (Reporting by Tim Ahmann; Editing by Mohammad Zargham)
