Name Description

Bruce Booth

Dr. Bruce Booth Ph.D., is Independent Chairman of the Board of the Company. He has served as the chairman of our board of directors since February 2016. Dr. Booth joined Atlas Venture in 2005, and currently serves as partner. Previously, from 2004 to 2005, Dr. Booth was a principal at Caxton Health Holdings L.L.C., a healthcare-focused investment firm, where he focused on the firm’s venture capital activities. Prior to Caxton, from 1999 to 2004, he was an associate principal at McKinsey & Company, a global strategic management consulting firm, where he advised clients on R&D productivity, corporate strategy and business development issues across the biopharmaceutical sector. Dr. Booth serves on the board of several privately held companies, as well as on the board of miRagen Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: MGEN), Zafgen, Inc. (Nasdaq: ZFGN) and Unum Therapeutics Inc. (Nasdaq: UMRX). Dr. Booth also serves on UCB Pharma’s New Medicines Scientific Advisory Board and participates on several other advisory boards for pharmaceutical companies and academic medical centers. As a British Marshall Scholar, Dr. Booth holds a D.Phil. in molecular immunology from Oxford University’s Nuffield Department of Medicine and a B.S. in biochemistry, summa cum laude, from Pennsylvania State University.

Geoff MacKay

Mr. Geoff MacKay is President, Chief Executive Officer, Director of the Company. He is our co-founder and has been our chief executive officer and director since November 2015. From April 2015 to June 2017, Mr. MacKay served as interim chief executive officer of eGenesis, Inc., a biotechnology company, and from December 2003 to December 2014, he served as chief executive officer of Organogensis Inc., a biotechnology company. Prior to that, from February 1993 to December 2003, Mr. MacKay served in various senior leadership positions within the global transplantation & immunology franchise at Novartis Canada, Global (Basel), USA. Mr. MacKay has served on the board of directors of Replicel, Inc., a regenerative medicine company, since 2016 and previously served as chairman of the board of MassBio, chairman of the board of the Alliance of Regenerative Medicine, and on the advisory council to the Health Policy Commission for Massachusetts. Mr. MacKay holds a B.A in psychology and a graduate certificate in marketing management from McGill University.

Erik Ostrowski

Mr. Erik Ostrowski has been appointed Chief Financial Officer, Principal Financial Officer and Principal Accounting Officer of the Company effective on January 2, 2019. He joins the Company from Summit Therapeutics plc, where he was Chief Financial Officer from June 2014 to December 2018. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Finance at Organogenesis Inc., a biotechnology company, from 2010 to 2014, and previously worked in investment banking, most recently as a Director with Leerink Partners LLC. Mr. Ostrowski began his career as an accountant with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) and received a B.S. in Accounting and Economics from Babson College and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Birgitte Volck

Ms. Birgitte Volck, M.D. Ph.D., serves as President - Research & Development of the Company. She is a seasoned biotech executive and R&D leader. She was formerly Senior Vice President and Head of R&D, Rare Disease at GSK in the UK, where she oversaw ex-vivo gene therapy programs for orphan disease indications. Prior to GSK, Birgitte was Chief Medical Officer and SVP, Head of Development at Swedish Orphan Biovitrum (SOBI), a biopharmaceutical company, leading the development of their portfolio of products and product candidates in rare diseases across hemophilia, inflammation, metabolism, neonatology and genetics. In addition, Birgitte has held senior R&D and medical affairs positions with Genzyme, Pharmexa and Amgen where she led early and late stage programs and worked with product commercialization from pre-approval to launch and lifecycle management. She received her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Copenhagen University, Denmark, where she is now an external lecturer.

Kathryn McNaughton

Ms. Kathryn McNaughton, Ph.D., serves as Senior Vice President - Portfolio & Program Management of the Company. Kathryn has 20 years of experience in the biotech industry encompassing R&D, Program Management and assessment of business development opportunities. She brings to AVROBIO deep expertise in global program leadership and orphan drug development, extending from the preclinical stage through commercialization. Kathryn was previously Vice President, R&D Pipeline Program Management at Synageva, and held roles of increasing responsibility at Shire and Praecis Pharmaceuticals. Kathryn earned a PhD in Chemistry from Princeton University and a BS in Chemistry from Monmouth University.

Chris Mason

Dr. Chris Mason, M.D. Ph.D., is Chief Science Officer of the Company. He is a clinician-scientist with over 25 years of cell and gene therapy experience including Full Professor of Cell & Gene Therapy at University College London. He has a multidisciplinary track record spanning R&D, clinical medicine, bioprocessing, regulation, healthcare economics, reimbursement and commercialization. Chris was instrumental in the founding of the Alliance for Regenerative Medicine, UK-Israel Science Council and the London Regenerative Medicine Network. Current SAB appointments include; public and private companies, the UK Cell & Gene Therapy Catapult, and the Canadian Centre for the Commercialization of Regenerative Medicine. Chris is Senior Editor of the journals; ‘Cell and Gene Therapy Insights’ and ‘Regenerative Medicine’.

Steven Avruch

Mr. Steven N. Avruch, J.D., serves as General Counsel of the Company. He was Chief Corporation Counsel and Assistant Secretary (VP) at Biogen Inc., and prior to that worked at Biogen as an Associate General Counsel. A corporate attorney, Steven has more than 25 years of experience in a broad range of industries including life sciences and technology companies. He graduated with an AB in Russian Studies from Dartmouth College, and later earned his Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Boston Center for the Arts.

Deanna Petersen

Ms. Deanna Petersen is Chief Business Officer of the Company. She is a broadly skilled senior executive with leadership experience in global business development and strategic planning. Deanna previously was the head of business development for Shire’s rare disease business where she and her team identified and evaluated new business opportunities, and negotiated and executed more than 40 transactions in 5 years (public and private M&A, licenses and other partnerships), including a $4.2 billion dollar acquisition of ViroPharma. Prior to joining Shire, Deanna was Vice President of Business Development at Agenus Inc. and at Coley Pharmaceutical Group. Deanna is on the Board of Directors for Tecogen, Inc. (TGEN) and was previously on Boards for Armagen, American DG Energy (ADGE), the Massachusetts Biotechnology Association, the Boston Chapter of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association and for the Boston BioPharma Executive Council.

Kim Warren

Dr. Kim Warren Ph.D. is Head - Operations of the Company. She is an experienced scientist with entrepreneurial and business management experience in cell therapy. She spent the last 10 years at Lonza, developing a services business, including tissue acquisition, process development, bioassays and related services to support GMP manufacturing of cellular therapeutics. Kim also headed R&D at Cambrex, developing cell-based research products. She founded and ran Poietic Technologies, acquired by Cambrex in 1999. She has also held research positions in pharma (Otsuka) and biotech (Cetus). Kim has a Ph.D. in Comparative Physiology from University of Maryland and postdoctoral training in Immunology at USUHS, Bethesda MD.

Josie Yang

Ms. Josie Yang, Ph.D., serves as Head - Regulatory Affairs of the Company. She has over 25 years of experience in biomedical research in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and in bio-pharmaceutical industries including in regulatory affairs across all stages of drug development with biologics and small molecules in oncology, anti-inflammatory, gastroenterology and neurology therapeutic areas. Josie held leadership positions as VP and Head of Global Regulatory Strategy at PTC Therapeutics, a global biopharma company, and an Associate VP, Global Regulatory Affairs at ImClone Systems/Eli Lilly and Company. She has a DVM from National Taiwan University and a Ph.D. in Immunology from Auburn University.

Philip Vickers

Dr. Philip J. Vickers, Ph.D., serves as Director of the Company. Dr. Vickers brings a wealth of global pharmaceutical and biotechnology expertise to AVROBIO, with more than 25 years’ experience in the development and approval of innovative biologics and small molecules to treat diseases in a wide range of therapeutic areas. The Company also announced that Scott Requadt is transitioning off AVROBIO’s board to become CEO of a Blackstone portfolio company. Dr. Vickers currently serves as President and CEO of Northern Biologics, Inc., a company focused on the development of monoclonal antibodies as immuno-oncology therapeutics to treat targeted populations of cancer patients. Prior to joining Northern Biologics, from 2010 to 2017, Phil was Global Head of Research and Development at Shire, where he was responsible for overseeing preclinical research and development, clinical research, regulatory affairs, and medical affairs. Phil oversaw Shire’s growing product portfolio and, as Executive Vice-President and a member of Shire’s Executive Committee, he played a key role in developing and executing Shire’s global business strategy, with a particular focus on rare diseases. Phil is also a member of the board of directors of Revance Therapeutics. Prior to joining Shire, Phil had roles of increasing responsibility in drug discovery in a range of therapeutic areas at Merck, Pfizer, Boehringer-Ingelheim and Resolvyx. Phil holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Biochemistry from the University of Salford, Manchester U.K. He was also a Visiting Fellow at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland.

Ian Clark

Mr. Ian T. Clark serves as Independent Director of the Company. He has served as a member of our board of directors since January 2018. Mr. Clark currently serves as an operating partner within Clarus Ventures. Previously, Mr. Clark served as the chief executive officer and head of North American commercial operations at Genentech from 2010 to 2016. He joined Genentech in 2003 as senior vice president and general manager, BioOncology. In August 2005, he became senior vice president, commercial operations of Genentech. In January 2006, Mr. Clark became executive vice president, commercial operations of Genentech and became a member of its executive committee. Mr. Clark was named head of global product strategy and chief marketing officer of Roche in April 2009. Prior to joining Genentech, Mr. Clark served as general manager of Novartis Canada, overseeing all of the company’s country operations, and as chief operating officer for Novartis United Kingdom. Mr. Clark worked in executive positions in sales and marketing for Sanofi and Ivax in the United Kingdom, France and Eastern Europe. Mr. Clark began his career at Searle, where he held management positions in both sales and marketing. Mr. Clark also serves on the board of directors of Agios Pharmaceuticals, Inc., (Nasdaq: AGIO), Corvus Pharmaceuticals, Inc., (Nasdaq: CVRS), and Shire plc, (Nasdaq: SHPG). He has served on the board of directors of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) since 2009 as well as on the boards of TerraVia and the Gladstone Foundation and as a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco’s economic advisory council. Mr. Clark received a B.S and honorary doctorate in biological sciences from Southampton University in the United Kingdom.

Phillip Donenberg

Mr. Phillip B. Donenberg serves as Independent Director of the Company. Effective July 16, 2018, Mr. Donenberg has been appointed Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Depomed, Inc. Until such date, Mr. Donenberg will continue to serve in his current role as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of AveXis, Inc., where he was previously Vice President, Corporate Controller from September 2016 to October 2017. He was the chief financial officer of RestorGenex Corporation from May 2014 to January 2016, when RestorGenex merged with Diffusion Pharmaceuticals LLC and served as the merged company’s consultant CFO until September 2016, and the chief financial officer of 7wire Ventures LLC from September 2013 to May 2014. Prior to that time, Mr. Donenberg served as the chief financial officer of BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from July 1998 to June 2013, when BioSante merged with ANIP Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Mr. Donenberg also has experience serving on the boards of directors of privately held companies. Mr. Donenberg holds a B.S. in Accountancy from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana College of Business and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Annalisa Jenkins

Dr. Annalisa M. Jenkins, M.B.B.C., F.R.C.P. serves as Independent Director of the Company. She has served as a member of our board of directors since March 2018. Dr. Jenkins has served as the chief executive officer of PlaqueTec Ltd. since November 2017 and was previously the chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors of Dimension Therapeutics, Inc., from September 2014 until its sale to Ultragnyx Pharmaceutical in November 2017. From October 2013 to March 2014, Dr. Jenkins served as executive vice president, head of global research and development for Merck Serono Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company. Previously, from September 2011 to October 2013, she served as Merck Serono’s executive vice president, global development and medical, and was a member of Merck Serono’s executive committee. Prior to that, Dr. Jenkins pursued a 15-year career at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, a biopharmaceutical company, where, from July 2009 to June 2011, she was a senior vice president and head of global medical affairs. Dr. Jenkins is currently a committee member of the science board to the FDA, which advises FDA leadership on complex scientific and technical issues. Dr. Jenkins serves on the board of directors of Ardelyx, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARDX), Silence Therapeutics (Nasdaq: SLN), Oncimmune (Nasdaq: ONC) and a number of privately held biotech and life science companies. Dr. Jenkins graduated with a degree in medicine from St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in the University of London and subsequently trained in cardiovascular medicine in the UK National Health Service. Earlier in her career, Dr. Jenkins served as a medical officer in the British Royal Navy.

Christopher Paige

Dr. Christopher Paige, Ph.D., serves as Independent Director of the Company. He has served as a member of our board of directors since January 2016. Dr. Paige is a professor in the departments of medical biophysics and immunology at the University of Toronto. In 1997, he served as the vice president, research of the University Health Network and now serves as senior scientist. In 1990, Dr. Paige became the founding director of the Arthritis and Autoimmunity Research Centre as well as director of research at The Wellesley Hospital. He became a member of the Basel Institute for Immunology in Switzerland in 1980 where he worked until joining the Ontario Cancer Institute as a senior scientist in 1987. Dr. Paige earned a B.S. in biology at the University of Notre Dame in 1974 and a Ph.D. in immunology at the Sloan-Kettering Division of Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences in 1979.
