Biographies

Name Description

James Myers

Dr. James P. (Jim) Myers has served as Independent Non-Executive Chairman of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited since December 12, 2012. Previously, he acted as Non-Executive Director of the Company from May 27, 2009 to December 2012. He is a former Executive Vice President of South Western Bell International (SBC, Inc., now AT&T). He also served to a consortium of SBC and Malaysia Telekom. Dr. Myers also sits on the Board of Econet Wireless Group (EWG), the parent company of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Ltd. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from the Texas A&M University, obtained in 1962, a Masters of Arts degree in Mathematics from the University of Arizona, obtained in 1965 and a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in Industrial Engineering / Operations Research from the Texas Tech University in 1969. He also serves as the Company's Member of the Audit Committee, and Chairman of the Company's Remuneration Committee.

Douglas Mboweni

Mr. Douglas Mboweni has served as Chief Executive Officer, Executive Director of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited since December 2003. He served as Chief Executive Officer of the Company between March 2002 and December 2003. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Zimbabwe. He joined the Company in 1996. He assumed various positions in Econet Wireless International before his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe in March 2002. He also serves as the Company's Member of the Risk Committee.

Roy Chimanikire

Mr. Roy Chimanikire has served as Group Finance Director, Executive Director of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited since February 2016. He joined the Company in 2009 from Deloitte, where he was a Partner. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science with Honors degree from University of South Africa - UNISA, and a Certificate in the Theory of Accounting from the Institute of Chartered Accountants Zimbabwe (ICAZ). Mr. Chimanikire is a registered Public Accountant and is a Council member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Zimbabwe. He also chairs the Auditing Professional Standards Committee (APSC) of ICAZ. He is on the boards of the Zimbabwe Accounting Practices Board (ZAPB) and the Public Accountants and Auditors Board (PAAB), which regulate the accounting and auditing professions in Zimbabwe.

Krison Chirairo

Mr. Krison Vengai (Kris) Chirairo has served as Executive Director of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited since February 2007. He joined the Company on June 1, 1998 as Chief Accountant. He set up the Company's finance department in Nigeria in March 2001, before returning to Zimbabwe in January 2004 as Deputy Chief Finance Officer. He is a registered Public Accountant and a fellow member of both the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. He also serves as the Company's Member of the Social and Ethics Committee.

Strive Masiyiwa

Mr. Strive T. Masiyiwa serves as Executive Director of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited. He obtained a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Wales. Previously, he served in Zimbabwe Posts and Telecommunications Corporation as Senior Engineer and Principal Engineer. He is the chairman and founder of Econet, a diversified telecommunications group with operations and investments in Africa, Europe, North America, Latin America and the Asia Pacific. His business interests also include renewable energy, water treatment, Coca Cola bottling, financial services and hospitality. He serves on a number of international boards, including the Rockefeller Foundation, the Africa Against Ebola Solidarity Trust, the Council on Foreign Relations’ Global Advisory Board, the Africa Progress Panel, the UN Secretary General's Advisory Board for Sustainable Energy, Morehouse College and the Hilton Foundation's Humanitarian Prize Jury. He is one of the founders, with Sir Richard Branson, of the global think tank, the Carbon War Room, and a founding member of the Global Business Coalition on Education. He currently co-chairs the AU/WEF platform for investment in African agriculture, known as Grow Africa, and recently took over the Chairmanship of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) from Kofi Annan. In 2012, he was invited by President Obama to address leaders at the Camp David G-8 Summit on how to increase food production and end hunger in parts of Africa.

Charles Banda

Mr. Charles Alfred Banda serves as Group Company Secretary of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited. He joined the Company from RioZim Ltd, where he had been Group Company Secretary. He has a career in the justice and legal fraternity and in commerce. He served as Assistant Registrar in the High Court of Zimbabwe and a Registrar at Supreme Court, before rising to Senior Law Officer, International Law Division, Ministry of Justice, in 1984. Mr. Banda is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and an Associate of the Royal Aeronautical Society. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Law and a Masters in Philosophy in International Law.

Michael Bennett

Mr. Michael Bennett serves as Non-Executive Director of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited. Mr. Bennett has a BA LLB degree from Rhodes University in South Africa and was a partner at Scanlen & Holderness, Zimbabwe. He qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2001 and is currently a partner at Hill Dickinson LLP. Mr. Bennett has significant international experience across a variety of sectors in mergers and acquisitions acting for both companies and entrepreneurs.

Tracy Mpofu

Mrs. Tracy P. Mpofu serves as Non-Executive Director of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited. She joined the Company in February 2001 as Finance Director from Coca-Cola Central Africa, where she occupied the positions of Regional Finance Manager, Regional and Budget Planning Manager and Regional Finance Director. Previously, she also worked for Ernst and Young. She holds a Bachelors of Accounting degree and a Masters of Business Administration degree, both from the University of Zimbabwe. She is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Management Accountant. She also serves as Member of the Company’s Social and Ethics Committee.

Beatrice Mtetwa

Ms. Beatrice Mtetwa has served as Non-Executive Director of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited since October 26, 2010. She is Partner at Mtetwa and Nyambirai Legal Practitioners, a firm that provides legal services to the Company. By profession she is a Lawyer. She also serves as Member of the Social and Ethics Committee of the Company. Beatrice is one of Zimbabwe’s most recognized lawyers, and brings over two decades’ worth of legal experience to the Group.

Martin Edge

Mr. Martin Edge has served as Independent Non-Executive Director of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited since June 6, 2013. He brings the experience gained from a financial career focused on both Africa and the telecommunications sector. Until mid-2012 he was a Managing Director with Standard Chartered Bank in Johannesburg. He has practiced as a corporate finance advisor since 1985, working for nine years at Hambros Bank in London, four years as head of TMT Advisory at HSBC in Johannesburg and seven years as Director and Head of Corporate Finance at First Africa, which was acquired by Standard Chartered in 2009. In between, he spent three years working at CCAfrica (& Beyond) as its Finance Director and Corporate Finance Director. He has advised on some corporate finance transactions in Africa for clients such as Econet, Anglogold, MTN, Vodacom, Bharti Airtel and McDonalds. He has served on many private company Boards in Africa and is a Trustee of two trusts within the Macmillan Africa group. He graduated with an honors degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford, and is a UK Chartered Accountant. He also serves as Chairman of the Audit Committee, and Member of the Risk Committee of the Company.

Godfrey Gomwe

Mr. Godfrey Gregory Gomwe has served as Independent Non-Executive Director of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited since May 15, 2013. He is Chief Executive of Anglo American's global Thermal Coal business. Until 31 August 2012, he was Executive Director, Anglo American South Africa Limited. He was previously Head of Group Business Development, Africa for Anglo American Plc and prior to that, Finance Director and Chief Operating Officer of Anglo American South Africa. He is Chairman of Tshikululu Social Investments and a former Non-Executive Director of Kumba Iron Ore Ltd and Anglo Platinum Ltd. Before moving to South Africa in 2003, he was Chairman and CEO of Anglo American Zimbabwe. He is a past President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe and past Senior Vice President of the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe. He has held many Directorships in both listed and unlisted companies. He is currently on the board of Thebe Investment Corporation (Pty) Ltd where he is Chairman of Thebe Mining Resources Limited, Chairman of the Remuneration Committee as well as a member of the Investment Committee. He currently serves on the Executive Council of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa. He has a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from the University of Zimbabwe, is a Chartered Accountant (Zimbabwe), and holds a Masters degree in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa - UNISA. He is Chairman of the Social and Ethics Committee of the Company.

Hardy Pemhiwa

Mr. Hardy Pemhiwa serves as Independent Non-Executive Director of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited. Mr. Pemhiwa is Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Econet Global Limited. In addition, he is a director of several of Econet’s subsidiaries. He is also the co-founder and director of Amana Capital Limited, a licensed investment management company in Kenya.

Sherree Shereni

Mrs. Sherree Gladys Shereni has served as Independent Non-Executive Director of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited since May 15, 2013. She brings experience from The Coca-Cola Company which she joined in 2002 and has gained experience in public affairs and communication, managing functions in eight countries across Central Africa. She was also Chairperson of the Women's Leadership Council for the 39-country Coca-Coca Central, East and West Africa Business Unit. She joined The Coca-Cola Company in October 2002. She previously held senior positions at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe prior to joining Coca-Cola. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Economics) degree from University of Zimbabwe, a degree in Business Administration (University of Manchester, UK), leadership training from The Coca-Cola Company and a host of other qualifications, among them from the Bank of England's Centre for Central Banking Studies, the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton International Housing Finance School, the International Monetary Fund Institute, the World Bank, and the Macro-Economic and Finance Management Institute. She also serves as Member of the Company’s Audit Committee and Chairman of the Company’s Risk Committee.
