Biographies

Name Description

Peter Hay

Mr. Peter Algernon Franc Hay serves as Independent Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of the Company. Mr Hay has a strong background and breadth of experience in business, corporate law, finance and investment banking advisory work, with a particular expertise in relation to mergers and acquisitions. He has also had significant involvement in advising governments and government-owned enterprises. Mr Hay was a partner of the legal firm Freehills until 2005, where he served as Chief Executive Officer from 2000 and is a former member of the Australian Takeovers Panel.

Sandeep Biswas

Mr. Sandeep Biswas serves as Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director, Executive Director of the Company. Mr Biswas was previously Chief Executive Officer of Pacific Aluminium, a wholly owned subsidiary within the Rio Tinto group, which incorporated the bauxite, alumina, refining and smelting operations in Australia and New Zealand. He began his career with Mount Isa Mines, working in both Australia and Europe. Mr Biswas has also worked for Western Mining Corporation in Australia and Rio Tinto in Canada and Australia. He has experience in research, operations, business development and projects, across commodities including aluminium, copper, lead, zinc and nickel.

Gerard Bond

Mr. Gerard Bond serves as Chief Financial Officer, Finance Director, Executive Director of the Company. Mr Bond has experience in the global financial and resources industry with BHP Billiton, Coopers & Lybrand and Price Waterhouse. Prior to joining Newcrest, Mr Bond was with BHP Billiton for over 14 years where he held a number of senior executive roles in Europe and Australia including in Mergers and Acquisitions, Treasury, as Deputy CFO of the Aluminium business, CFO and then Acting President of the Nickel business, and as BHP Billiton’s Head of Group Human Resources.

Lisa Ali

Ms. Lisa Ali serves as Chief People and Sustainability Officer of the Company. She currently the Head of Transformation of the Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago and Interim CEO of Paria Fuel Trading Company, will commence with Newcrest on 29 February 2020. Lisa has had an extensive career in the oil and gas sector. Prior to being appointed in early 2018 to her current role she held a number of senior roles with BP across a 12-year period, including Head of Upstream Talent and Learning for BP’s upstream business, Vice President Human Resources for the BP Global Operations Organisation, and Vice President HR in Brazil and Trinidad. Prior to joining BP, Lisa worked with Process Plant Services and Unilever in senior technical and commercial roles.

Suresh Vadnagra

Mr. Suresh Vadnagra serves as Chief Technical and Projects Officer of the Company. Suresh joins Newcrest from MMG, where he has served on the Executive Committee since January 2018 in his capacity as the Executive General Manager Operations – Americas. In this role one of his primary accountabilities was for Las Bambas, one of the world’s largest copper operations. In December 2019, he assumed the role of Executive General Manager – Africa and Australia with multi-asset accountability for MMG’s operations in these jurisdictions. Suresh joined MMG in 2011 and held a number of other senior roles with the company, including General Manager of the Sepon mine in Lao PDR and General Manager Operational Excellence. Suresh previously held senior roles in Iluka Resources and BHP.

Maria Perez

Ms. Maria Esperanza Sanz Perez serves as Chief Legal, Risk, Compliance Officer and Company Secretary of the Company. Ria has had an extensive career in mining, manufacturing, construction, private healthcare and banking. She is a seasoned executive who has advised public boards, CEOs and executive committees on governance, risk, sustainability, compliance, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, regulatory and commercial legal matters. She has had experience leading multijurisdictional teams and has regulatory expertise across Africa, the United States, Australia and the UK.

Craig Jones

Mr. Craig Antony Jones serves as Chief Operating Officer - Papua and New Guinea of the Company. He joined Newcrest in 2008 as General Manager Projects. In 2010 he held the role of General Manager Cadia Valley Operations in New South Wales. Craig was appointed Executive General Manager - Projects in July 2012 and in March 2013 he assumed additional responsibility for Asset Management. Prior to joining Newcrest, Craig worked in projects at Rio Tinto. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical).

Seil Song

Mr. Seil Song serves as Chief Development Officer of the Company. Seil has contributed strongly to Newcrest’s growth strategy since joining the company in April 2017, helping build a significant pipeline of growth opportunities including the acquisition of a 70% operating interest in the Red Chris operation in Canada and Newcrest’s equity interest in Lundin Gold.

Philip Stephenson

Mr. Philip Stephenson serves as Chief Operating Officer – Australia and Americas of the Company. Phil will be accountable for Newcrest’s Gosowong and Telfer operations, in addition to the group’s Asset Management function. Phil joined Newcrest in 2014 and has extensive international mining operations experience, with 29 years in the industry working for some of the world’s largest mining companies including Newmont Mining Corporation, Barrick Gold Corporation and Placer Dome Inc.

Claire Hannon

Mrs. Claire Hannon serves as Deputy Company Secretary of the Company. Ms Hannon joined Newcrest in January 2013 as Corporate Counsel in the legal team. She was appointed as an additional Company Secretary in August 2015. Prior to joining Newcrest, Ms Hannon worked as a lawyer in the Melbourne office of Ashurst and the London office of Clifford Chance, specialising in mergers and acquisitions and corporate law.

Philip Aiken

Mr. Philip Stanley Aiken serves as Independent Non-Executive Director of the Company. Mr Aiken has extensive Australian and international business experience, principally in the engineering and resources sectors. He was Group President Energy BHP Billiton, President BHP Petroleum, Managing Director BOC/CIG, Chief Executive of BTR Nylex and Senior Advisor Macquarie Capital (Europe).

Roger Higgins

Dr. Roger John Higgins Ph.D. serves as Independent Non-Executive Director of the Company. Dr Higgins brings extensive experience leading mining companies and operations, and has deep working knowledge of Papua New Guinea as a current Non-Executive Director and a former Managing Director of Ok Tedi Mining Limited in Papua New Guinea. In his most recent executive position, Dr Higgins served as Senior Vice President, Copper at Canadian metals and mining company, Teck Resources Limited. Prior to this role he was Vice President and Chief Operating Officer with BHP Billiton Base Metals Customer Sector Group working in Australia and also held senior positions with BHP Billiton in Chile. He also holds the position of Adjunct Professor with the Sustainable Minerals Institute, University of Queensland.

Xiaoling Liu

Dr. Xiaoling Liu Ph.D. serves as Independent Non-Executive Director of the Company. Dr Liu has extensive executive experience in leading global mining and processing businesses. Her last executive role was as President and Chief Executive Officer of Rio Tinto Minerals based in Denver, where she ran integrated mining, processing and supply chain operations in the United States, Europe and Asia. Prior to her last executive role, Dr Liu held senior management and operational roles at Rio Tinto throughout her career including President – Primary Metal Pacific, Managing Director – Global Technical Services and General Manager Bell Bay Smelter.

Vickki McFadden

Ms. Vickki Anne McFadden serves as Independent Non-Executive Director of the Company. Ms McFadden is an experienced company director and has broad experience in several roles as member or chairman of audit and risk committees. Ms McFadden has an extensive background in finance and law. She is a former investment banker with considerable expertise in corporate finance transactions, having served as Managing Director of Investment Banking at Merrill Lynch in Australia and as a Director of Centaurus Corporate Finance and a former President of the Australian Takeovers Panel.

Peter Tomsett

Mr. Peter W. Tomsett serves as Independent Non-Executive Director of the Company. Mr Tomsett has extensive and deep gold mining and international business experience as both an executive and non-executive director of a broad range of mining companies listed on the Australian, Toronto, New York and London stock exchanges. His last executive role was as the President and Chief Executive Officer of global gold and copper company, Placer Dome Inc, where he worked for 20 years in project, operational and executive roles. He has been the Chairman and Managing Director of Kidston Gold Mines Ltd and the Non-Executive Chairman of Equinox Minerals Ltd and Silver Standard Resources Inc. He has also held numerous other Board positions in mining, energy and construction companies and associations including as a Director of OZ Minerals Ltd, Acacia Mining plc, Talisman Energy Inc, North American Energy Partners Inc, Africo Resources Ltd, World Gold Council, Minerals Council of Australia, and International Council for Mining and Metals.
