Biographies

Name Description

David Clayton

Mr. David H. Clayton serves as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of the Company. Mr. David joined SDL as a Non-Executive Director in December 2009 and has served as Senior Independent Director and, for nine months through 2015/2016, interim Executive Chairman. After a career in senior executive roles at a number of international technology companies he joined BZW where, after its merger with CSFB in 1997, he was Managing Director and Head of European Technology Research until 2004. David Clayton joined The Sage Group plc Board in June 2004 as a Non- Executive Director and took up an executive role as Director of Strategy and Corporate Development from October 2007 to February 2012. He is currently Chairman of Forensic and Compliance Systems, a Non-Executive Director of SwiftPage Inc and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the charity Changing Faces. David is on the boards of FCS (UK) Limited, Solar Archive Ltd, Albora Technologies Ltd and a trustee of Changing Faces and Dixons Academies Charitable Trust Ltd.

Adolfo Hernandez

Mr. Adolfo Hernandez serves as Chief Executive Officer, Executive Director of the Company. He joined the Board of SDL as Chief Executive Officer on 18 April 2016. Prior to joining SDL, he was CEO of Acision Limited from July 2013 to August 2015, a privately held mobile communications software company specialising in messaging systems, prior to its merger with Comverse Inc in 2015 to form Xura Inc. Before that Adolfo spent four years at Alcatel-Lucent, with his most recent position being Executive Vice President, Global Software Services and Solutions. Adolfo has also held senior management roles at Sun Microsystems Inc and spent nine years with IBM in London and Munich where he held a variety of sales leadership positions in the areas of eBusiness and Open Systems.

Xenia Walters

Ms. Xenia Walters is Chief Financial Officer, Executive Director of the Company. Ms. Xenia Walters was appointed Chief Financial Officer of the Company on 3 April 2018. Prior to joining the Group, Xenia held CFO roles within a number of private equity backed companies and was Group Financial Controller and UK CFO at Regus plc. Xenia is a Chartered Accountant, having qualified with Price Waterhouse in 1995. Xenia holds a BSc in Economics from Birmingham University and an MBA from Henley Management School. Xenia is on the Board of several SDL Group companies.

Roddy Temperley

Mr. Roddy Temperley is Chief Human Resource Officer of the Company. Mr. Roddy joined as Head of HR and a member of the Executive team in July 2013 and is now Chief HR Officer. Roddy has created an industry-leading HR team that delivers across all disciplines with a people strategy that is continuously refined to deliver against our ambitious business strategy. Roddy graduated with a Master of Arts (Hons) degree in Psychology from the University of Dundee. He has a solid track record of leading high performing HR teams at Credit Suisse, SAP, PeopleSoft and Unisys, Xerox and others.

Betsy Fallon

Ms. Betsy Fallon is Executive Vice President of Global Client Services and Professional Services of the Company. Ms. Betsy joined the SDL Executive leadership team in 2016. She is responsible for ensuring that her team and colleagues enhance the customer experience and maximise customer success. She oversees technical and non-technical teams and initiatives ranging from professional services and technical support to renewals and voice of the customer programmes. Betsy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the American University and holds an MSEd in Organisation Development from the University of Miami. She brings over 20 years of progressive customer-facing, operations and marketing experience in technology companies. She joined SDL through the acquisition of Idiom Technologies Inc., where she served as Vice President of Marketing. Prior to Idiom, Betsy was Vice President of Marketing for Context Media (acquired by Oracle), a leading provider of enterprise content integration software and services. Betsy is a trustee of the SDL Foundation.

Massimo Ghislandi

Mr. Massimo Ghislandi is Executive Vice President of Translation Productivity of the Company. Mr. Massimo joined SDL in 2006 and leads the Translation Productivity Software group. Massimo has an MBA from Bocconi University in Milan, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Marketing from The Chartered Institute of Marketing. Mr. Massimo has over 20 years’ experience working in international sales and marketing roles for engineering and technology companies. Before joining SDL, Massimo worked for Avery Dennison, ITT Corporation and Acterna (now JDSU). Massimo leads a large sales and marketing team and has a strong background in sales, revenue-focused marketing and driving growth within international environments. Whilst at SDL, he has gained a deep understanding of the localisation industry and how technology can help companies with their global content challenges.

Christophe Djaouani

Mr. Christophe Djaouani serves as Senior Vice President - Regulated Industries of the Company. Following the acquisition of Donnelley Language Solutions (DLS) by SDL, Christophe is now responsible for the DLS team within SDL, focused on specialist sector and regulated industries. Beginning his career in the multilingual communications field in 1998, Christophe has used his 18+ years of industry experience to drive the DLS strategy, building a team of highly-skilled experts to respond to client needs and shape the group. His vision grew the DLS team, its range of services and its client base, across all the industry sectors, prior to the company's joining forces with SDL. Having first gained experience as a project manager for translation services in New York, Christophe took on his first production supervisor role for Europe and Asia in RR Donnelley's London office. He eventually moved into a sales role at the Paris office before leading the DLS team, and then joining SDL. With a visionary and consultative approach, he transformed the DLS to a market-leading global organization providing a comprehensive localization service portfolio across four continents. Christophe has focused on building an international team and invested in innovative language technologies to achieve 15 years of consistent growth. A graduate in Sales Techniques from the University of Grenoble in his native France, Christophe has gained a good cultural awareness over the years and understands how to connect with customers internationally. In addition, he has a proven track record working with Fortune 500 clients and an in-depth knowledge of current trends across the industries and sub-sectors that SDL serves.

Peggy Chen

Ms. Peggy Chen is Chief Marketing Officer of the Company. Ms. Peggy has been Chief Marketing Officer at SDL since July 2016 and graduated with both a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to joining SDL, Peggy led product marketing for Oracle’s WebCenter and BPM solutions. She has also led product marketing for Oracle’s Embedded solutions, drove product strategy for Oracle’s RFID and Sensor solutions and was responsible for product management of the Oracle’s mobile platform and mobile E-Business Suite offering. Ms. Peggy has global responsibility for goto- market strategy, corporate branding and communications, product and industry marketing, campaigns and field marketing.

Maria Schnell

Ms. Maria Schnell serves as Global Vice President - Language Delivery of the Company. Ms. Maria enjoys solving complex problems. A skill that has served her very well in her career. "I accept every challenge as an opportunity to learn, improve, excel." She says "There has not been a single day in my professional life that has been repetitive or even remotely boring. I’ve made it a point to constantly seek roles that stretch the boundaries of what I know today." Schnell joined SDL in 2006 and is currently VP of the Global Language Offices. "I joined SDL planning to just train my project and account management muscle for the next five years. I ended up with a remit rather more varied than originally planned." Maria quickly rose through the ranks to lead sales, pre-sales, professional services and operations for SDL's global languages offices in both regional and global roles. "While I still enjoy consulting our customers very much on how to overcome their localization challenges, the aspect I have enjoyed most was understanding operational complexities and, most notably, simplifying them. I am very proud to lead a global team that share the same personal interests as me." Leading global translation, localization engineering, DTP and testing teams across the globe has turned out to be quite an education for Maria, "It has been a pleasure spending the past 18 months, not only driving quality and efficiency throughout all teams, but pursuing this while focusing on giving team members time to do what they love most (translating). This has been outright rewarding."

Thomas Labarthe

Mr. Thomas Labarthe is Chief Revenue Officer of the Company. Mr. Thomas joined SDL in 2016 and is currently Chief Revenue Officer, with responsibility for our commercial, sales and project management operations across all our language and content offerings, having previously been EVP of Business and Corporate Development. Prior to SDL, Thomas was Managing Director at Lookout, leading commercial and sales operations in Europe. He has also held several leadership positions at Alcatel-Lucent. Thomas holds an MS degree in Electronics with Honours from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de l’Electronique et de ses Applications. He brings 20 years of experience in the enterprise software and services market. He is also a truly international executive, who speaks fluent English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and has lived in many countries across Europe and the Americas.

Azad Ootam

Mr. Azad Ootam is Chief Transformation Officer of the Company. Mr. Azad joined SDL in June 2016. Azad started his career with Accenture in 1987, leaving in 2006 having been a financial services partner for the previous seven years. He then joined the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit and was seconded to the Home Office until December 2009. In early 2010 he joined Royal Mail and assisted in its privatisation and ongoing improvement programme until December 2015. Azad graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Manchester. He has over 30 years’ experience working across a wide set of industries including financial services, government, utilities, telecoms and media. He has spent much of his career on large-scale transformations as well as strategic direction setting, organisational redesign, radical costreductions, programme management and a variety of operational roles.

Jim Saunders

Mr. Jim Saunders is Chief Product Officer of the Company. Mr. Jim joined SDL in March 2016 and is responsible for leading the global product organisation, which includes the Language and Content Technologies organisations, product strategy and cloud operations. Jim graduated with an Honours BSc degree in Computer Science from the University of Essex. Mr. Jim has over 30 years’ experience leading large highly distributed global product organisations delivering mission critical enterprise software products. He has worked extensively in the US for major software companies including Digital Equipment Corporation, Apple, Netscape, America Online, and in Europe with companies such as Reuters, Misys and Acision. Most recently, he led the global product organisation of Xura (previously Acision) leading a major product transformation and the successful integration into Comverse in 2015.

Liz Young

Ms. Liz Young serves as Director of the Company. Young is a prominent consultant within the space and intelligence industry and advises a variety of organizations on system engineering and program management, including NASA's Artemis program. In 2011, Young retired at the rank of Rear Admiral from the US Navy, where she served with distinction for twenty years at the National Reconnaissance Office. The NRO is one of the seventeen US Intelligence agencies and the organization responsible for designing, building, launching, and maintaining America's intelligence-gathering satellites. She led the NRO's Systems Engineering Directorate and was credited with helping the NRO through a historic six satellite launches in less than a year. Young also served as the Program Executive Officer for Navy Space Systems. A graduate of the US Naval Academy, Young was commissioned in 1984, earning an undergraduate degree in chemistry. Her initial tour was at the Naval Space Surveillance Systems Command. Subsequent assignments included the Naval Postgraduate School, where she earned a graduate degree in physics; the Naval Research Laboratory; the Naval Space Command Detachment at the Defense Support System Ground Station; the Aerospace Data Facility; and the Naval Tactical Unmanned Air Vehicle Program at the Naval Air Systems Command. In 1999 she reported to the NRO, where she served as the Deputy Chief Systems Engineer of the Future Imagery Architecture Program in the Imagery Intelligence Directorate. In 2001 she was reassigned as the Deputy Program Manager and Chief Systems Engineer of the Advanced Concepts Staff in the Imagery Intelligence Directorate. In 2005 she was appointed Program Manager, Low Earth Orbit System Program Office in the Signal Intelligence Directorate.

Glenn Collinson

Mr. Glenn Collinson serves as Independent Non-Executive Director of the Company. In 1998 Glenn Collinson co-founded Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR plc) as a start-up project and was a member of the Board of Directors that managed the growth of CSR through its listing as a public company in 2004 and up until 2007, serving first as Marketing Director and then as Sales Director. Prior to CSR plc, he held positions including Senior Engineer and then Marketing Manager at Cambridge Consultants Ltd and held positions as a Design Engineer and Marketing Manager at Texas Instruments. He is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and holds a BSc in Physics and an MSc in Electronics from Durham University, as well as an MBA from Cranfield University. Glenn currently holds other Non-Executive Director positions within the technology sector. Glenn is a Director of Vsora SAS, Aquis Exchange PLC and pureLiFi Limited.

Mandy Gradden

Ms. Mandy Gradden serves as Independent Non-Executive Director of the Company. She is an experienced corporate CFO with more than 20 years’ financial and senior management experience. She is CFO of the FTSE 250 information company Ascential plc. Previous roles include: CFO of the privateequity owned Torex, the retail technology firm; CFO at the FTSE 250 business and technology consultancy, Detica; Director of Corporate Development at Telewest Communications; and Group Financial Controller at Dalgety. She began her career at Price Waterhouse, where, in 1992, she qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Mandy is CFO on the Board of Ascential plc.

Christopher Humphrey

Mr. Christopher John Humphrey, BA, MBA is Independent Non-Executive Director of the Company. Mr. Christopher Humphrey is a qualified accountant and has over 25 years’ experience managing engineering and technology companies. He is the Senior Independent Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of The Vitec Group plc. He is also the SID and Chairman of the Audit Committee of AVEVA Group plc and Chairman of Eckoh plc. Christopher was Group CEO of Anite plc from 2008 until 2015 and Group Finance Director between 2003 and 2008. Prior to joining Anite he was Group Finance Director at Critchley Group plc and held senior positions in finance at Conoco and Eurotherm International plc. Between 2011 and 2012 he was a Non-Executive Director of Alterian plc. Christopher has a BA (Hons) in Economics, is a Chartered Management Accountant, a Fellow of CIMA and has an MBA from Cranfield School of Management. Christopher serves as Chair of the Audit Committee for AVEVA Group plc and The Vitec Group plc and is Chairman of the Board at Eckoh plc.

Alan McWalter

Mr. Alan J. McWalter serves as Senior Independent Non-Executive Director of the Company. Mr. McWalter is the Chairman of Churchill China plc and Newmarket Promotions. He has previously held Chairmanship and Non-Executive roles with numerous quoted and private companies. He was an Executive Director of Marks & Spencer and Kingfisher Group companies and in his earlier career held both marketing and general management appointments with Thomson Consumer Electronics and Spillers Foods having started his career with Unilever. Alan is currently Chairman of Churchill China plc and Newmarket Promotions Ltd.

Gordon Stuart

Mr. Gordon M. Stuart serves as Independent Non-Executive Director of the Company. Gordon currently serves as the CFO of Unit4, a global provider of people-centric enterprise cloud applications for ERP and HCM to midmarket service sector organisations. Previous roles include CFO of TMF Group and CFO at Alexander Mann Solutions. He has held senior positions with a number of UK listed businesses including Group Finance Director of Xansa plc and Group Finance Director of London Bridge Software Holdings plc. His early career was as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company. He has also held non-executive roles at Sepura plc and Intec Telecom Systems plc. Gordon currently serves as the CFO of Unit4.
