Costa, Helio 

Mr. Helio Costa serves as Chairman of the Board at Petro Rio S.A. since March 19, 2014. He was Minister of Communications of Brasil and Senator. Mr. Costa has been in journalism business for about 55 years and is an expert in the areas of broadcasting and communications. Went to the United States in 1967, to work as a translator and journalist at the international radio The Voice of America, in Washington. His last position with the US government was "communication specialist". He was Foreign Correspondent at Catholic University in Washington and was a lecturer in communications at Pace University at the invitation of Professor Jordan Young. In 1972 he was hired as a foreign correspondent and later Chief of The New York News Bureau of Globo Televison Network the fourth largest TV network in the world. He lived in London and Paris during the deployment of Bureaus of Globo TV Network in Europe. As a journalist he has received several awards including the League of Women’s Voters of New York and The World Press Association. In Brazil was elected four consecutive years as the best communicator on TV and Radio. In 1986 he returned to Brazil to run for Congress. In 1998 he was reelected. In 2002 he was elected a Federal Senator in the State of Minas Gerais. In 2005 the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, invited him to be the Country’s Ministry of Communications. He implanted broadband Internet in all public schools. After observing a period of one year quarantine required for those leaving the government Mr. Costa works with a consulting company, Thelson Communication and Consulting, based in Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil. He studied Arts and Sciences at the University of Maryland.
