Mr. Mitchell Goldhar serves as Executive Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Company. Mr. Mitchell Goldhar is a Canadian businessman and the founder of the SmartCentres brand. Mr. Goldhar has 37 years of real estate development experience and has developed over 60 million square feet of retail, residential, office and self-storage. He started SmartCentres in 1989 with the belief that Canadians deserve convenient access to affordable retail. With a shared vision, he worked to help Walmart enter the Canadian market, which they did in 1994. Mr. Goldhar is also the owner of the Penguin Group of Companies, Penguin PickUp, Revival Film Studios, Clevelands House Resort in Muskoka and Maccabi Tel Aviv Football Club. Mr. Goldhar holds a BA in Political Science from York University and has been an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management since 2004. He is a member of the Board of Onex Corporation, Indigo Books and Music, the Canadian Concussion Centre at Toronto General Hospital and is Director Emeritus with the SickKids Foundation. Mr. Goldhar has been SmartCentres’s Executive Chairman of the Board of Trustees since February 2018 and was the non-executive Chairman of the Board of Trustees from May 2015 to February 2018. Mr. Goldhar has been a SmartCentres Trustee since July 2005.
