The sound of soft diplomacy in China. U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama visited Beijing's Summer Palace on Saturday. It's the second day in her week-long China visit, designed to build goodwill through educational and cultural exchanges. At Beijing's prestigious Peking University, Mrs. Obama met with Chinese and American students. She told her young audience not to have fear and to explore the world. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA SAYING: "Let's take my husband for example. He is dragged me kicking and screaming into things that I had wanted no parts of. And a lot of this was because of fear, the fear of making mistakes, the fear of not knowing, the fear of uncertainty, the fear of living your comfort zone. And we are living in a world where we can no longer afford to let fear keeps us apart." Obama also told students that access to information -- especially online - is a universal right. But she stopped short of calling for greater press freedoms in China where censorship is tight. Mrs. Obama is expected to steer clear of complicated political issues during her trip. Her China visit comes days before her husband, U.S. President Barack Obama, begins bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart in the Hague.
