The Ukraine-Russian border has become ground zero for the escalating spat between Moscow and Turkey. Hundreds of trucks carrying Turkish exports a re now blocked from entering Russia…the result of new economic sanctions imposed by Russian president Vladimir Putin against Ankara for the downing of a Russian warplane near the Syrian-Turkish border last week. In his annual state of the nation speech, Putin warned Turkey to expect even MORE sanctions: (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN PRESIDENT VLADIMIR PUTIN, SAYING: "But if anyone thinks that having committed this awful war crime, the murder of our people, that they are going to get away with some measures concerning their tomatoes or some limits on construction and other sectors, they are sorely mistaken. We will remind them what they did more than once. And they will regret what they did more than once. And we, we do know what needs to be done." Russia's punishment has already gone far beyond blocking Turkish food. Putin has also suspended work on the Turkish Stream pipeline -- intended to pump Russian gas into southeastern Europe via Turkey while bypassing Ukraine. Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu says he wants Russia to assess the situation with a cool head. But all indications are that the dispute is only getting more heated.
