ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) President Trump attended the commissioning of the USS Gerald R. Ford, the Navy's newest nuclear aircraft carrier costing $12.9 billion, at Norfolk Naval Station in Virginia on Saturday. Trump called the aircraft the "newest, largest, and most advanced aircraft carrier in the history of this world." The new carrier is the lead ship of the Ford-class of "super -carriers", the first new class in more than 40 years, and will replace the current Nimitz-class carriers. The Navy also said it would spend $43 billion in total to build the first three ships in the class, including the USS John F. Kennedy and the USS Enterprise. The warships are being built by Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc. During his speech, Trump called on Congress to pass his $1 trillion budget outline that includes a $54 billion increase in defense spending next year.
