The Summer Olympics are coming back to Los Angeles. City and Olympic officials confirming Monday that the City of Angels will host the 2028 Summer Olympics, paving the way for Paris to host the 2024 Games. L.A. initially was trying to get the 2024 Games, but ultimately ceded to the French capital, which last hosted in 1924. Paris received a boost this summer from newly elected President Emmanuel Macron, who said the city's bid represented a defense against threats to the Games' values of openness, tolerance and respect. France will have to overcome security concerns after several Islamist militant attacks in recent years. Paris will also need to build several structures for the Games. Los Angeles, meanwhile, had argued that it had all the necessary inftrastructure in place, with venues such as the Staples Center and the Rose Bowl Stadium. Though the city's notorious traffic and President Donald Trump's travel ban had both come up as factors weighting against L.A.'s bid. Although Olympic negotiators reached a deal on Monday, a formal announcement won't be held until the International Olympic Committee meets in September.
