ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) A North Carolina man charged with stabbing his wife to death says he woke from a dream to find her dead after taking too much cough medication. Twenty-eight year-old aspiring pastor Matthew Phelps told 911 dispatchers "I think I did it" when he called to say he had awoken covered in blood with a bloody knife on the bed. His wife, 29-year old Sunday school teacher Lauren Ashley-Nicole Phelps, died from stab wounds. Matthew Phelps told police he took too much of the Coricidin cough medicine to help get to sleep. "She didn't deserve this… why?" he can be heard telling police 911 dispatchers. The couple wed in November 2016. Matthew Phelps is due to appear in court on Tuesday.
