Donald Trump lands in Japan, kicking off Asia tour

U.S. President Donald Trump arrives in Japan defending his tough rhetoric on North Korea, saying discussions on Pyongyang will figure prominently in talks with other Asian leaders as tensions rise over its missile and nuclear tests. Samantha Vadas reports.

Donald Trump touching down in Japan on Sunday (November 5) for the start of the U.S. President's 12-day visit to Asia, where North Korea is set to be top of the agenda. Trump is looking to show a united front with Tokyo against Pyongyang, as tensions rise over its missile and nuclear tests. (SOUNDBITE) (Japanese) JAPANESE PRIME MINISTER, SHINZO ABE, SAYING: "I welcome President Trump's historic visit to Japan today. I would like to see our personal friendship help make the U.S. Japan alliance a stronger one. I would also take our time to talk deeply about various international issues including the North Korean situation." Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said a decision would be made soon on whether to add North Korea to a list of state sponsors of terrorism and that his administration plans to take a different approach after years of what he calls 'total weakness'. Trump will meet with the leaders of Japan and South Korea, before visiting Beijing, where he's expected to urge Chinese President Xi Jinping to get tougher on Pyongyang. He also said he plans to meet Vladimir Putin, saying he wants the Russian president's help on North Korea. Vietnam and the Philippines are also on Trump's itinerary, on the longest Asian tour by any U.S. leader in 25 years.
