ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. Kenyan opposition leaders urged their supporters on Saturday (November 25) to boycott President Uhuru Kenyatta's inauguration and called for a peaceful protest. On Monday (November 20) Kenya's Supreme Court upheld the re-election of Kenyatta in last month's repeat presidential vote, paving the way for him to be sworn in on Tuesday (November 28). Chief Justice David Maraga said all six judges dismissed the two legal challenges to the vote. The opposition coalition NASA insisted the government was illegitimate. Tuesday's swearing in is unlikely to end the worst political crisis in East Africa's most developed economy in a decade. Raila Odinga's coalition has said that they will not recognize Kenyatta as a legitimate president and will only recognize Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka as the president and deputy elected by the people. Odinga pulled out of the vote, saying the electoral commission had failed to institute reforms to forestall the kind of illegalities and irregularities that scuppered Kenyatta's victory in the August election.
