This amateur video footage shows fires raging in the grounds of Osama bin Laden's compound on Monday morning. Officials said bin Laden was killed in a US helicopter raid on a mansion near the Pakistani capital of Islamabad. A senior U.S. security official said the Navy Seals that raided the compound were under orders to kill not capture bin Laden. Announcing the death of the mastermind of the September 11th attacks, President Barack Obama proclaimed a victory for justice. But reactions in Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar, near the Afghanistan border, were mixed. One resident said bin Laden's death was a loss for Muslims. (SOUNDBITE) (Pashto) RESIDENT OF PESHAWAR, ABDUL SATTAR: "Osama was well wisher of Muslims. The terrorism is the handiwork of neither Muslims nor the Taliban. It is a conspiracy hatched by non-Muslim foreign countries that have pushed terrorism into Pakistan. Osama was a good person. His death is a great loss for Muslims and Islam." Another feared a backlash from militants. (SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) RESIDENT OF PESHAWAR, SHAHID MEHMOOD: "If Osama has really been killed in Pakistan, if he was targeted being here, then the situation in Pakistan will further worsen." Pakistani officials are now under pressure to explain how bin Laden could have lived so close to their capital. Nick Rowlands, Reuters.
