Amateur video out of Hama shows demonstrators releasing birds in Hama as part of a call for a peaceful revolution in Syria. The video, which could not be independently verified by Reuters comes amid reports that Syrian forces killed at least eight people when they opened fire on protests against President Bashar al-Assad across the country. Footage purportedly out of Damascus shows more demonstrations against Assad's 11 year rule. More footage shows demonstrators setting fire to Russian and Chinese flags. Both nations had blocked a U.N. resoltion condeming Syria. On Friday Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Syrian leaders should relinquish power if they could not carry out promised reforms. But he also said that Western states had no right to intervene according to Russia's state-run news agency. Video in Damascus shows a funeral service for a protester who died in the demonstrations. The United Nationals says at least 2,900 civilians have been killed in Syria since the uprising began in March. Syria has banned most independent media from the country making it difficult to verify accounts from either the government or activists. Deborah Lutterbeck, Reuters
