A new biopic on the life of iconic jazz singer Nina Simone premiered at the Berlin film festival. "What Happened, Miss Simone?" is produced by the singer's daughter and shows her life from early childhood to the glitzy heights of fame. But the lows are seen as well, with Simone's struggle between politics and music, and her tough final years in Europe. SOUNDBITE: Nina Simone's daughter, Lisa Simone Kelly, saying (English): "I wasn't afraid because the truth is the truth. You have ugly faces, you have beautiful faces and you have all the faces in between and when you're not afraid to share that truth.... then it really it's not like ok, you can't use this salt bottle over here, you can only use the pepper. No, here's the salt and the pepper." Simone is best remembered for classic hits like 'I Loves You Porgy' and 'My Baby Just Cares For Me'. And it sounds like it wasn't just her music that left a lasting impression. SOUNDBITE: Nina Simone's daughter, Lisa Simone Kelly, saying (English): "My mom made sure that everywhere she went she left a large footprint, and amazing impressions. When I talk to people they remember what they had on, what she had on, what the weather was, everything - they can tell you about the entire experience and it takes a very special person to elicit that type of connection with people everywhere that they went." "What Happened, Miss Simone?" is facing up against 16 other films in its competition for the Documentary Prize at Berlin.
